10 de octubre y 17 de octubre
Last week we took our vocabulary quizzes and met Victor. Students were to draw a representation on who they thought Victor was based on a reading. After watching the Señor Wooly video and doing a Cloze Listening activity, we analyzed who Victor really was and determined "Víctor es muy engreído y no es digno de confianza."
We also started posters based around a reading activity. "¿Cómo ser un buen amigo?" Each group had to focus on one section of the Spanish Wiki-How and present on a poster what it takes to be a good friend. All assignment information is on Schoology and if a student was absent, they can check it out!
This week, we are going to finish the presentations and work on our personal ads. Students will write about what they're looking for in a significant other and they will also make their own videos describing themselves and again - what they look for in a significant other.
After this week, we'll finish up the unit with skits - How can we convince our parents that our boyfriend or girlfriend is a great person and a suitable companion?

Spanish 3 - Week of 10/3/16
Students should have finished up their websites over the weekend. A few have had an extension to turn it in sometime this week. We're introducing our new unit that relates to Relationships and how to talk about positive and negative characteristics.
Check out the quizlet for a review of the vocab words

On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we'll have a vocabulary quiz and then we'll move forward to presentational writing and speaking activities.

Course description The world languages program in DHS focuses on using languages in real-world situations. Students learn language that prepares them to communicate with others through oral language, print, and media. Although students will need to know vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information, they learn them in order to use them purposefully for communication with others. This emphasis on communication aligns the DHS curriculum with state and national standards.
Each level of the DHS world languages curriculum is guided by clear statements of what students will know and be able to do. Realistic expectations for how well students will be able to use their language and cultural skills are also clearly stated. These objectives determine what teachers teach, what practice activities are provided to students, and how student progress is evaluated. Ultimately, because the goal of learning language is to be able to use it, DHS teachers are expected to test and evaluate their students on what students can do with what they have learned.

Grading Students will be assessed in the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) through quizzes, class projects, presentations, homework and tests.
Formative assessments 40 % (Includes homework assignments, class exercises, mini-quizzes, etc.).
Summative assessments 60 % (Includes at least 4 assessments per unit).
Participation is very important in a language course. Students will be urged to participate with RAP cards and other class rewards.
Homework: Practicing a foreign language is very important. Homework will be assigned occasionally, but I try to get the majority of work done in class. Often, students will need to bring work from class to finish at home. For homework that is checked for completion, students will receive a 100 or a 0. If it is completed late, they receive partial credit. If it is a homework that is checked for accuracy, similar rules apply, but more points may be docked for incorrect work.
Rules and ExpectationsStudents are expected to:
Come to class on time, be in their seats when the bell rings, and wait to be dismissed before leaving the classroom. Class skipping and continual lateness will warrant a detention.
Obey the Electronics sign (this means that cell phones are only to be used in emergencies or as a classroom tool when authorized by the teacher). No phones are to be plugged into the school walls. Ever.
Students are expected to respect one another, the teacher, any visitors to the classroom, as well as the school itself. This means to respect others’ speaking time, thoughts, ideas, and physical space.
It is a student’s responsibility to check schoology, the website, talk to a fellow student, or come to me in order to make up missed work.
Students are held to the same expectations listed in the Student Success Guide. I hope to facilitate a better learning environment for every student; which involves cooperation of every classroom member. Students are also expected to maintain a sense of responsibility and integrity. Life is about choices. I hope to foster a positive environment with students who take responsibility for themselves and their actions, as well as maintain integrity throughout the school year.
